Shadow Kirby (known as Hairo-Kun [灰色くん]in Japanese) is a skilled Kirby impostor who has been trained by Dr. Kingyo, a demon beast trainer at HNC. Shadow Kirby appears in many Kirby works, where Shadow Kirby is a big mean bully with “muscles of steel” that can shatter trees and buildings to shards with one strike!

Shadow Kirby was the offspring of two highly intelligent puffball parents, who were tended to by Dr. Kingyo in HNC’s puffball breeding sanctuary. Shortly after Shadow’s birth, Shadow was bathed by Dr. Kingyo’s clients in a bath of charcoal, bamboo ashes, and squid ink, giving him a dark demeanor.

Shadow Kirby was trained by Dr. Kingyo’s minions in combat and copy abilities, imitating each copy ability that HNC knows that Kirby has!

Shadow Kirby is the secret final boss of Helper to Hero, where he is training to become the strongest shadow of the galaxy. His colour scheme is the same as in Kirby Fighters 2. When the player uses Dream Friends, he uses the ability that suits the most, and may even use Elemental Weapons.

In The True Arena, he gains an EX form, which consists of him having a white form, also resembles to his Kirby Fighters 2 style, but has inverted colours. In this form, he attacks more frequently, and uses his Ultra Sword attack faster.

In Ravia's Fate and The Final Arena, he gains an SDX form, which consists of him wearing the "Mask of Dark Sun", while retaining his EX colouring. This time he only uses Knight attacks, but has added more power of his own, as well as adding mini black holes on his Ultra Sword attack. In conclusion, his attacks are combinations of Dark Meta Knight, Galacta Knight and Morpho Knight.

Kirby Star Allies 4[]

Shadow Kirby returns as a playable character in this game. He acts like how he did in Kirby Star Allies 2, as a combination of Master and Mirror. He is one of the surviving characters of Galeem and Dharkon's onslaught, and quickly joins up with the heroes. He is notably the sole member of the surviving heroes outside of Kirby to not be a former villain.

Kirby and the Darkened Hero[]

Shadow Kirby is the titular darkened hero. Here, he tries to find a substitute for Super V. State, believing that if he were to achieve it, then his negative personality traits would become even more obvious, turning him into a complete and utter coward. As a result of the game being retconned, Shadow Kirby is not able to actually achieve a Super V. State period, as a result of being Kirby's Mirror World counterpart.

Trivia[]

  • As Kirby's counterpart, he can also Copy Abilities, presumably making him one of the most powerful characters in the canonical Kirby universe.
  • Shadow Kirby was going to be a Dream Friend in Kirby Star Allies, but the idea was scrapped due to a rule that was established soon after, which only permitted one character per main series title, instead Dark Meta Knight was chosen as Kirby & The Amazing Mirror's representative.
  • Shadow Kirby's official art from Kirby & The Amazing Mirror is just a monochrome, reversed image of Kirby entering a door from the manuals of Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land and Kirby & The Amazing Mirror.
  • For Black Friday in 2020 and 2021, Shadow Kirby was given his own line of merchandise, titled "AEON BLACK FRIDAY KIRBY".
